Reed V. Tuckson Joins Hastings Board

The Hastings Center welcomes Reed V. Tuckson, MD, FACP, to its board of directors. Dr. Tuckson is a co-convener of the Coalition for Trust in Health and Science, which is dedicated to bringing together the entire health-related ecosystem to address mistrust and misinformation. In addition, he continues to advance his work as a co-founder of the Black Coalition Against COVID, a multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary effort to mitigate Covid in Washington, D.C., and nationally by coordinating the four historically Black medical schools, the W. Montague Cobb/National Medical Association (NMA) Health Institute, the National Black Nurses Association, the National Urban League, and BlackDoctor.org.

“Dr. Tuckson is a distinguished physician who brings a wealth of expertise from the private and public sectors and the academy,” says Hastings Center board chair Joseph J. Fins. “I am delighted he has joined the Hastings board and I look forward to working with him to advance the Center’s mission.”

Dr. Tuckson enjoyed a long tenure as Executive Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs for UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 20 health and well-being company. He has been appointed to leadership roles at the National Institutes of Health and the National Academy of Medicine, as well as to numerous federal advisory committees and corporate, nonprofit, and academic boards.

In addition, he served as President of the Charles R Drew University of Medicine and Science; the Senior Vice President for Professional Standards of the American Medical Association; the Senior Vice President for the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation; and the Commissioner of Public Health for Washington, D.C.

“Reed Tuckson’s leadership in the health field and his deep experience combatting mistrust and misinformation are tremendous assets to The Hastings Center at a time when we are developing our strategic plan,” says Hastings Center President Vardit Ravitsky. “We are honored to have him on our board.”
