The Hastings Center offers several programs for students and visiting scholars.  For more information about any of these programs, please contact programs@thehastingscenter.org. Please include the name of the program of interest in the subject line.

Summer Bioethics Program

The Hastings Center Summer Bioethics Program for Underrepresented Undergraduates is a five-day live online program for undergraduate students from groups underrepresented in bioethics. These groups include and are not limited to communities of color, Indigenous communities, first-generation students, rural residents, students with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ students. Admission to this program is by application.

Applications for the 2025 Summer Bioethics program will open in early 2025. For more information, please visit the program webpage.

Sadler Scholars

The Hastings Center Sadler Scholars are a select group of doctoral students and early-career scholars with research interests in bioethics who are from racial or ethnic groups underrepresented in disciplines relevant to bioethics. During their cohort year, each Sadler Scholar gives a work-in-progress talk for feedback from Hastings Center staff scholars and editors and the Sadler Scholar community. Workshops and discussions on career development, publication, and professional flourishing are also part of the cohort year. All current and former Sadler Scholars have access to one-on-one mentoring sessions with program advisors and to other activities.

Admission to the Sadler Scholars program is by application during the dissertation phase of a research doctoral program. Applications for the 2025-26 cohort will open in early 2025. For more information, please visit the program webpage.

Stays at The Hastings Center

The Hastings Center offers short-term stays to scholars who have well-developed writing or editing projects underway. Admission to this program is by application. For more information, please visit the program webpage.
