DECEMBER 7, 2021 – The Hastings Center, a global leader in health ethics, today announced that the American Hospital Association and the ABIM Foundation joined as sponsors of a two-day health equity summit, “Righting the Wrongs: Tackling Health Inequity.” The AHA and ABIM Foundation have joined the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association as sponsors of the summit, which is being convened by The Hastings Center and the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Center for Health Justice.

The virtual event will take place on Jan. 19 and 20, 2022, and feature:
– Isabel Wilkerson, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and author of the best-selling books Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and The Warmth of Other Suns.
– David Williams, an internationally recognized scientist whose TED Talk entitled, “How Racism Makes Us Sick” has been viewed over 1 million times.
– Daniel Dawes, a leader in the movement to advance health equity and a key figure in shaping the Mental Health Parity Act and the Affordable Care Act.
– Richard Rothstein, author of The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America.

Day 1 will focus on the ways in which America’s history of federal and state laws and socioeconomic determinants have led to major inequities in health today. It will be designed for the general public, and health professionals, researchers, and policymakers.
Day 2 will offer examples of promising strategies that health care leaders and practicing clinicians can employ to address inequities through policy, clinical care, medical education, research, and community collaborations.

Free registration is open at www.healthequitysummit.org.

The event is made possible by the generous support of Hastings Center Advisory Council members Frank H. Trainer and Andrew S. Adelson.
