Dr. Amrit Ray is a physician-researcher and a biopharmaceutical industry R&D executive. He is passionate about advancing medical breakthroughs and championing health care access for patients.

Amrit is an independent board director and advisor to a portfolio of public and private life sciences companies. Previously, he was Global President, Head of R&D, and Executive Leadership Team member at Pfizer Upjohn. He led 3,500 professionals in 90 countries and served as the company’s most senior decision-maker on patient matters. Amrit has held multiple C-suite roles at major companies, including as the Chief Medical Officer for pharmaceuticals at Johnson & Johnson. He has played instrumental roles in numerous successful corporate transactions and served previously as a Senior Advisor to Bain Capital private equity.

As a physician researcher, Amrit has applied R&D functional expertise to support clinical research for several well-known, groundbreaking medicines in Neuroscience, Oncology, Immunology, Cardio-Metabolism, and other areas. As a public health advocate, Amrit has championed over 100 visionary inter-sectoral healthcare partnerships with organizations such as the American College of Cardiology, Duke University, Alibaba, and Emirates airlines.  He has given invited expert input to the World Health Organization, U.S. Congress, Gates Foundation, Brookings Institution, UK MHRA, Chinese NMPA, International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations, and other forums. He earned degrees in Immunology and in Medicine at Edinburgh University, and an MBA at Dartmouth College.

Amrit started his career serving as a hospital doctor in Britain’s National Health Service. He was previously an Executive in Residence in bioethics at Columbia University, and currently serves as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University, UK, and a Director at the board of the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases.
