Description: This position offers a superb opportunity for an early career, mid-career, or established scholar to devote themselves to research and public outreach on questions of national and international significance. The Hastings Center is a world-renowned bioethics research institute with an active research portfolio, outstanding collaborative relationships with researchers and institutions in the US and around the world, and a strong commitment to public engagement, including through outreach to journalists, policymakers, opinion leaders, and other audiences.

The successful candidate will have freedom to identify and address major ethical, legal, and social issues on wide variety of topics in health, health care and science. While areas of specialization and methodologies are open, we encourage applications from scholars with an interest in ethical issues related to artificial intelligence (AI), particularly as applied to health care. Applications are also encouraged from candidates interested in health care reform, health policy, and neuroscience. For the right candidate, this is a powerful opportunity to build a robust research portfolio at The Hastings Center.

Candidates should be committed to collegial, interdisciplinary work. Experience securing grant funding that enables original research on timely topics—or interest in developing that skill—is a must. In addition, candidates should have strong writing and speaking skills and a desire to become a public voice on issues of societal concern.

Qualifications: Candidates will have a PhD, JD, MD, or other terminal postgraduate degree. Training or experience in bioethics is an asset, as is evidence that the candidate has applied their disciplinary skills to ethical concerns in health policy or the governance of emerging technologies.
