Hospice and Palliative Care Affinity Group Meeting 2010
ASBH Conference, San Diego, CA
Friday, October 22, 2010

This year’s meeting of the hospice and palliative care affinity group will feature a talk and discussion led by Charles von Gunten, MD, PhD, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Palliative Medicine and provost of The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. A social hour with wine and hors d’oeuvres will also be provided. The event will take place on the campus of San Diego Hospice. We will depart the conference hotel at 5:30 pm and arrive back at the hotel at 7:45 pm. A small additional fee, payable at registration, will cover transportation to and from the event as well as all food and beverages.

Dr. von Gunten will discuss the relationship between the hospice philosophy of care and the emergence of palliative medicine as a medical specialty. The relationship between hospice and palliative medicine presents both ethical risks and opportunities. Exploring the tension and resonance between the two promises to be a rich and spirited discussion.

Any interested conference attendee is welcome and encouraged to join us for an insightful talk, good food and wine, and stimulating conversation with others who share an interest in hospice and palliative care.

The 2010 session is generously supported by The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice and its PAL-MED CONNECT® resource hotline program.
