Job Announcement: Project Manager-Research Assistant

The Hastings Center seeks applicants for a full-time Project Manager- Research Assistant to begin in the summer of 2020.
Job Description: The Hastings Center’s Project Manager-Research Assistants support the projects and work of our Research Scholars. PMRAs have the opportunity to engage with all aspects of Hastings scholarship, to meet and work with leaders in the field, and to develop a deep familiarity with a wide range of bioethical and policy issues in health, science and technology, and medicine, including issues related to genetics, aging, and artificial intelligence.
As Project Managers: PMRAs coordinate, schedule, and manage records related to Hastings Center research projects and collaborations. PMRAs take notes at internal meetings and track project deadlines and deliverables.
As Research Assistants: PMRAs perform journal screening, literature and web-based searches, document retrieval, bibliographic and citation services; take careful notes and prepare detailed summaries of research project meetings; assist with preparation of scholarly publications and presentations; support dissemination of scholarly outputs; and provide other research support as requested.
The successful candidate will work closely with members of the Research Department, including our Research Scholars, two other PMRAs, and our Administrative Assistant. In addition to the formal duties of the position, PMRAs have opportunities to submit abstracts to academic conferences, contribute to Bioethics Forum, and seek publication of scholarly work.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree. Candidates with a master’s degree or equivalent experience are welcome.
Key Competencies: Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills; familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite and citation management software (e.g., Zotero); ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks; ability to take initiative; willingness to work creatively and collaboratively supporting the Scholars and the Research Department. Training or experience in bioethics or a related field (e.g., philosophy, health, biomedical science, STS, etc.) is desirable but not required. Candidates must already have the right to work in the U.S. (e.g., they must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents).
