Arguments and Analogies: Do Children Have a Right to Know Their Genetic Origins?
Those who believe that children have a right to know that they were created using “donated” gametes make an analogy to adoption, where policies and attitudes promote transparency. By contrast, an analogy to natural reproduction is used in attempts to reveal problems with requiring transparency. But adoption is the better comparison. Just as with the use of “donated” gametes, adoption involves third parties. Recognizing this point underscores children’s right to know about the use of gamete donation in their conception.
