Apply Now: Hastings Center 2025-26 Sadler Scholars Cohort

The Hastings Center for Bioethics invites applications for the 2025-26 cohort of Sadler Scholars from doctoral students whose bioethics research focuses on the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of human genomics. Applicants for the 2025-26 cohort can be based in any field, provided that their research is ELSI-focused.

The Sadler Scholars benefit from a professional development program in which they participate in small-group workshops and one-on-one consultations with program mentors and have additional opportunities tailored to their goals and interests. Each Sadler Scholar presents a work-in-progress talk for feedback from Hastings Center scholars and editors. Following their cohort year, Sadler Scholars can continue working with mentors, and they may be invited to join Hastings Center research work groups. All Sadler Scholars programming is offered remotely. Sadler Scholars each receive a stipend of $500 from The Hastings Center through the Blair and Georgia Sadler Fund for Socially Just Health Policy.

Applicants selected for the 2025-26 Sadler Scholars cohort will also be CERA Fellows through The Hastings Center’s partnership with the Center for ELSI Resources and Analysis (CERA). CERA is a hub for research on the ELSI of human genomics, led by the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics and the Columbia Division of Ethics in collaboration with The Hastings Center and Case Western Reserve University, along with multiple partner organizations. CERA is funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute.

As CERA Fellows, Sadler Scholars will receive unique opportunities designed to enhance their professional growth and visibility through collaboration with CERA mentors and staff.

The application deadline is June 13. Learn more and apply.
