Documentary Series Premiere on Genetic Medicine Features Hastings Scholars

Hastings Center president Mildred Z. Solomon and director of research Josephine Johnston were featured speakers at the premiere screening of The Code, a series of three documentaries on the origins of genetic medicine and what its successes and failures mean for the future. The series was produced by Retro Report in partnership with STAT news.

The screening, which took place in New York City on April 2, featured two of the documentaries: Finding the Code, about the race to map the human genome and develop gene therapies, and Fixing the Code, which traces the history of gene therapy up to present-day advances with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing. Following the screening, Solomon and Johnston participated in a discussion of the films and the ethical questions that they explore, moderated by Jill Rosenbaum, a producer for Retro Report.
