Summer Bioethics Program for Underrepresented Undergraduates
About the Program
The Hastings Center Summer Bioethics Program for Underrepresented Undergraduates is a five-day live online program for undergraduate students from groups that are underrepresented in bioethics. These groups include and are not limited to communities of color, Indigenous communities, rural residents, low-income students, first-generation students, students with disabilities, and LGBT+ students. This program is part of The Hastings Center’s efforts to build a more inclusive bioethics community.
Admission to this competitive program is by application. We invited 22 applicants to take part in the 2024 program. Participating students commit to a five-day, participatory online program from Monday through Friday, beginning at 11 am and ending at 5 pm ET. Students who complete all program requirements, including daily attendance and participation, receive a stipend of $500.
Sessions include lectures, group discussions, and small group exercises. To meet the students and instructors from this year’s program and view program topics, visit the program website.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, please email programs@thehastingscenter.org, with “Summer Bioethics Program” in the subject line.
The 2024 program was funded by internal Hastings Center support, including the Emily Murray Fund and the Harriet S. Rabb Fund for a More Inclusive Bioethics.
