Medicine & the Market

1998 - 2003

Is the institution of medicine compatible with market values? Driven by that fundamental question, this project examines, at the international level, the relationship between medicine and the market. By that we mean the impact of market theory and market tactics on the provision of health care, focusing on three variables: health care costs, the equitable distribution of health care, and the doctor-patient relationship. The project also seeks to explore how different cultures respond to market thinking, asking why some cultures are more open to it than others.
