Q: How can I register
for electronic access?
A: Click here to register for electronic
access.
Q: How long will
it take to set up electronic access? Is it immediate?
A: Before your access can be enabled, we must verify that you have
entered a subscription. Within three days of making a payment, you will
receive an email with further instructions and your unique Hastings Center
Report subscription number.
Q: I am an institution/library.
Do I need to register with my IP address?
A: No, in order to register, you can either use your IP address
and/or create a user name and password. You may want to register using
your IP address so that you can automatically be recognized each time
you go to the IngentaConnect site. Check with your network administrator
to find out your IP address, which is the number your computer is assigned
to identify your computer from the others on the internet.
Q:
I do not know my Hastings Center Report subscription number. How can I
find it?
A: Your subscription number is provided in an acknowledgement,
emailed to you within three days after your subscription order is processed.
If you do not know your subscription number, or if you did not receive
an email acknowledgment, please contact The Hastings Center's circulation
department at 845-424-4040 ext 234 or holohanl@thehastingscenter.org.
Q: If I have difficulty
accessing the online edition of the Report, should I contact The Hastings
Center or its online provider, IngentaConnect?
A: It depends. If you are an active, paid subscriber, are registered
with IngentaConnect and have previously accessed the Report, you should
contact IngentaConnect. They will also assist you if you experience any
technical difficulty.
However, if you're
trying to access the Report and cannot remember your Hastings Center subscription
number, or you have questions about your membership or subscription, you
should call The Hastings Center at 845-424-4040 ext. 234 or email holohanl@thehastingscenter.org.
Q: How can I get
in touch with IngentaConnect's customer service?
A: All questions for IngentaConnect should be directed to help@ingentaconnect.com.
Q: Why isn't online
access free?
A: The Hastings Center is a non-profit organization. In order to
continue to maintain and develop the site, we need to charge a subscription
fee.
Q: I am currently
a Hastings Center Report subscriber. Can I add an online subscription
to my current print subscription?
A: Yes, for a modest additional fee, current individual print subscribers
interested in adding online-or switching to online only-can do so without
waiting for their current subscription period to end. However, if you
add online to your current print subscription, your online access period
will run in sync with your six-issue print subscription. So, for example,
if you have three issues left in your print subscription and now add an
online subscription, you will be able to access three online issues only.
If you would like to add the online edition to your print subscription
or switch your print subscription to online only, you must call our circulation
department at (845) 424-4040 ext. 234. Please also note that we are unable
to offer partial refunds on current print subscriptions that readers wish
to discontinue in favor of online subscriptions. At this time, institutional
subscribers wishing to subscribe to the online edition must wait until
their print subscriptions are up for renewal.
Q: If I already
subscribe to the Hastings Center Report's print edition, do I get a discount
on the electronic edition?
A: Yes. Individual print subscribers can subscribe to the electronic
edition for only an additional $10 per year. Different rates apply for
institutions.
Q: Does The Hastings
Center offer an electronic-only subscription to the Hastings Center Report?
A: Yes. Visit Ingenta Select for more information
Q: Will I have
access to the online subscription at the same time that people get the
print edition?
A: You get to read it first. Online subscriptions will have access
to the latest issue of the Report one week before the print journal is
mailed to subscribers.
Q: Is the content
identical?
A: Yes. It is the same great journal whether you are reading the
online or print edition. You can read each journal page in high-quality
PDF format.
Q: Does subscription
to the electronic version allow access to the archives of the Hastings
Center Report?
A: Yes, current online subscribers are granted electronic access
to the volumes to which they are subscribed as well as available back
files through IngentaConnect.
Q: What archives
are available?
A: All articles from 2004 onward are available.
Q: Is it possible
to buy individual articles in an electronic format?
A: Yes, electronic ordering of current articles or articles in
a 2004 volume is available through IngentaConnect. Please contact IngentaConnect
at help@ingentaconnect.com
to find out more about pricing and other details.
Q: If I sign up
for a subscription to the electronic edition, can I share my account and
password with my friends and colleagues?
A: No. That would violate the terms of service (link) that you
agree to when subscribing, and thus be grounds for termination of your
account. But it's really not such a good idea anyway. Anyone who signs
on to the site as you could change your email address and password, preventing
you from using your account; order items from our online store using your
credit card; and so on.
Q: Can I post articles
from the archives on my own site, or reprint them elsewhere?
A: All material on this site is copyrighted by The Hastings Center.
Further reproduction without written permission from us is strictly prohibited.

at griffinj@thehastingscenter.org.
