Description of institution: L’Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) is an independent biomedical research institute dedicated to excellence in research. It is affiliated with the University of Montreal and associated with McGill University under specific agreements. The Bioethics Centre at the IRCM was created at the dawn of society’s awakening to the great power of biomedical science, when the more specialized communities realized that momentous developments in the biomedical sciences would call forth the need for sustained and precise ethical reflection. Since its foundation in 1976, the Centre for Bioethics has been under the direction of Dr. David J. Roy. When Dr. Roy steps down in May 2008, the upper management of the IRCM, in collaboration with the new director and Dr. Eric Racine, Director of the Neuroethics Research Unit, will revise the mandate and mode of directorship of the Centre for upcoming years.
Description of position: In addition to helping define the director’s position, the selected candidate will be invited to constitute his or her own research group in bioethics and to participate in the consolidation of activities in the field of bioethics at the IRCM. This position is equivalent to a faculty position with low teaching requirements.
Requirements: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or M.D.) and have solid postdoctoral experience. Both researchers with an established research program or having recently completed their postdoctoral training are encouraged to apply. A complementary research program to existing biomedical and bioethics activities at the IRCM will be considered an asset (please consult our Web site, www.ircm.qc.ca/en/, for further details).
Interested candidates should submit their resume, a summary of their previous research program, and a five-year plan for future research activities, as well as three references.
