Description of the Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law and Ethics:
The Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law and Ethics, located in the Department of Community Medicine and Healthcare, carries on a tradition of teaching, research and scholarship that date from the founding of the medical school   Proposals are underway to establish a Center on Bioethics and Society linked with the Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law, and Ethics. The purpose of the Center will be to identify the ethical, legal and social issues arising from cutting edge technologies and new developments in the medical sciences and biotechnology and to offer ethical and legal guidance for the research and applications of this knowledge.  For more information about the Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law and Ethics, please visit http://www.commed.uchc.edu/medicalhumanities/

Description of the Position:
The Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law and Ethics and the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the assistant professor level in biomedical ethics and the law.  The successful candidate will join other full-time faculty committed to teaching, research, and other scholarly activities related to the ethical, legal and social issues arising from new developments in the medical sciences and biotechnology. She or he will teach medical and dental students, residents and fellows, and graduate students in the basic sciences and in the Masters in Public Health Program.  The successful candidate will devote approximately 40% of his or her time to teaching, 40% to research and 20% to service.
 
Requirements:
A J.D. or equivalent legal degree is required as is graduate ethics education or equivalent experience in biomedical ethics.  Candidates should have familiarity with legal and ethical issues in health including, preferably, experience in the ethics and regulation of human subjects research and experience in teaching in these and related areas.
