Communications Assistant

The Hastings Center seeks applicants for the position of Communications Assistant, beginning in early 2017.

Job description: The Hastings Center, an internationally renowned bioethics research institute, seeks a full-time communications assistant. This is a creative, multifaceted position in an organization where communicating with diverse audiences has a prominent role. Primary responsibilities include using social media and other communications channels for audience engagement and development; writing and editing a variety of content, including news stories for our website, newsletters, and press releases; and monitoring website and social media analytics. The communications assistant will have the opportunity to work in a collegial environment with research scholars, project manager/research assistants, editors, and the art director; meet with leaders in the field from around the world; and contribute to our blog, Hastings Bioethics Forum. The communications assistant reports to the director of communications.

Qualifications and key competencies: A bachelor’s degree, excellent writing and editing skills, and a track record of smart use of social media for audience engagement and development are essential. Experience with WordPress and podcast and video production is strongly desired. Experience using video conferencing – or a willingness to learn – is a plus. The successful candidate will also have a familiarity with, or strong interest in, bioethics issues and will be ready to follow news related to them. Candidates must have the right to work in the U.S. (e.g. they must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents).
